Last Comic Standing is returning to NBC this summer, but it won’t be the only comedy competition reality show on the air. TBS has ordered eight episodes of a comedy competition show called Funniest Wins (working title) that will be produced and hosted by Marlon Wayans, according to THR. Each week, a group of amateur comedians, including YouTube stars and standups, will be whittled down to one winner with Wayans and his family and friends judging. Funniest Wins is also expected to launch this summer, and the overall winner of the season will receive a cash prize and a chance to star in a series for Wayans’s recently-launched web video site, WhatTheFunny.com.
We explored how Last Comic Standing — and reality competition comedy shows, in general — can both problematic and helpful to comedians in a piece last year, but we’ll just have to see how this one turns out. Funniest Wins will join TBS’s other reality competition shows, King of the Nerds and Deal with It, which follow nerds and pranksters, respectively.
